NFL: Relative of Rams owner Stan Kroenke wants to buy the Denver Broncos

Stan Kroenke owns two other major sports teams besides the L.A. Rams. Now a relative by marriage could follow suit and also become the owner of an NFL franchise.

Munich – Sports play a big role in this family, at least financially.

S. Robson Walton, the cousin by marriage of Rams owner Stan Kroenke, will make an offer to buy the Denver Broncos, according to the New York Post newspaper.

Rob Walton, son of Walmart founder Sam Walton, was chairman of the retail group from 1992 to 2015. According to the report, the 77-year-old is expected to present an offer of more than four billion US dollars. That is the minimum purchase price, according to the newspaper.

“An offer must have a four in front of the decimal point,” an anonymous source is quoted as saying. With an estimated fortune of around 70 billion, Walton should be able to offer more than any other interested party.

Kroenke owns three teams

While the league is said to have hoped the Broncos would be sold to a minority-led investor group, the franchise is currently in escrow, meaning the trustees have a duty to maximise returns. The final purchase price is expected to be between 4.5 and 5 billion.

The Kroenke family owns three relevant sports teams. In addition to the Super Bowl winner, the family also owns the Colorado Avalanche of the NHL and the Denver Nuggets of the NBA.

Should Walton actually become the owner of the Broncos, he would rank third in Forbes’ list of richest sports team owners.
