NFL Preseason: Daniel Jones shines in New York Giants win – Bengals toothless without Joe Burrow

The New York Giants celebrate a win against the Carolina Panthers in Week 2 of the NFL Preseason. Daniel Jones eclipses Bryce Young with a near-perfect cameo. The Cincinnati Bengals are without the injured Joe Burrow against the Atlanta Falcons in search of a punch.

New York Giants vs. Carolina Panthers 21:19

Eight of nine pass attempts for 69 yards arrived, including a touchdown pass. Quarterback Daniel Jones showed why the franchise signed him to a $160 million contract in the offseason in an impressive cameo appearance in his New York Giants’ 21-19 (21-3) win over the Carolina Panthers.

Besides Jones, backup Tyrod Taylor (9/13, 90 yards) also managed a touchdown pass. Third-string quarterback Tommy DeVito (9/11, 88 yards) also finished with strong numbers.

For the Panthers, No. 1 pick Bryce Young struggled with his spotty O-line and shaky receivers, finishing with a throwing percentage of 50 percent (3/6) and 35 yards. He also had to take a sack.

Matt Corral (9/13, 71 yards) and Jake Luton (2/7, 41 yards, one touchdown pass) were also used at quarterback. It was the second loss in the second preseason game for the Panthers.

Atlanta Falcons vs. Cincinnati Bengals 13:13

The Cincinnati Bengals remained without a touchdown of their own for a long time in their second preseason game. Only in the final minute did running back Chase Brown redeem himself by rushing for a touchdown.

Without the injured quarterback Joe Burrow, the offense was harmless for the most part. His substitutes Trevor Siemian (7/14, 62 yards) and Jake Browning (16/22, 140 yards, 1 interception) were not much of a factor.

For the Falcons, first-round pick Bijan Robinson showed his class as a running back with four carries for 20 yards. The only touchdown for Atlanta came from Carlos Washington Jr.

Philadelphia Eagles vs. Cleveland Browns 18:18

Already on Friday night, the Eagles and the Browns also split with a tie.

Marcus Mariota had a bad day for the Eagles in front of the watching Jalen Hurts: The quarterback completed nine of his 17 passes for 86 yards, was booed by his own fans after an interception and was sacked three times.

Things went better for Tanner McKee (10/18, 147 yards), who at least managed a touchdown.

For the Browns, who played without starter Deshaun Watson, his replacement Kellen Mond (12/24, 126 yards) threw the only touchdown.

The game was overshadowed by injuries to Eagles players Tyrie Cleveland (cervical spine), Moro Ojomo (cervical spine) and Josh Andrews (ankle).
