NFL – New Orleans Saints: Decision Made on Alvin Kamara’s Future

Alvin Kamara will continue to play for the New Orleans Saints next season. There had recently been speculation about a possible departure.

Alvin Kamara’s future has been settled. According to “NewOrleans.Football,” the running back will continue to play for the New Orleans Saints in 2026, marking his tenth season with the team. His agent, Brad Cicala, made it clear that this aligns with Kamara’s wishes.

“Alvin’s goal and the team’s goal was for him to stay with the Saints and retire as a Saint,” he explained in an interview with NFL Network reporters Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo.

Details of the new contract terms are not yet known. Kamara was originally set to earn up to $11.5 million. However, the Saints adjusted his contract several months ago due to the salary cap.

Kamara’s future has recently been the subject of intense discussion in NFL circles following the signing of running back Travis Etienne Jr. from the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Kamara, however, sees Etienne Jr. less as a competitor and more as a teammate who can help the Saints and take some of the burden off his shoulders.

The veteran also pointed out that he has successfully teamed up with Mark Ingram and Latavius Murray in the past.

“We’ve done this before. People saw Mark and me together, and then Latavius and me. I think having two talented running backs helps both players,” he said, according to the “ESPN” report.

Kamara believes that flexibility at the running back position can help break down opposing defenses. “They have to prepare for both of us. That puts them in a tough spot… I think we’ll complement each other well,” he announced.

Kamara had already stated in October that he did not want to play for another team. Nevertheless, there was speculation about him leaving, as he is approaching his 31st birthday and is coming off a very lackluster season. Last season, he posted career lows in rushing yards (471), receiving yards (186), and touchdowns (1).

NFL: Armstead Believes Kamara Will Bounce Back Strongly

Former Saints player Terron Armstead, however, is convinced that Kamara is far from finished and will prove himself on the field.

“He’s hungry. He’s angry. I just spoke with him. He’s angry about the last few years and how opinions have gradually shifted—and how people say he can’t do this or that anymore. He hates that. Because throughout his entire career, he’s performed at the highest and most exceptional level,” he made clear on his podcast. Kamara still has plenty of “power in his legs.”

Kamara was drafted by the New Orleans Saints in 2017 and has remained loyal to the franchise ever since. From 2017 to 2021, he was nominated for the Pro Bowl every year; he is still waiting for his sixth appearance.
