NFL: Is this the reason for Shedeur Sanders’ crash?

Shedeur Sanders is said to have been “pissed off” after a test by the New York Giants. In the draft, the son of Deion Sanders, who was considered a top pick, subsequently plummeted to the fifth round.

Shedeur Sanders was considered a contender for a top pick before the NFL draft, but the quarterback plummeted to the fifth round and was only selected 144th overall by the Cleveland Browns.

It’s clear that something must have gone wrong in the talks with the teams. But what exactly happened? Now light is being shed on what may have cost the son of NFL legend Deion Sanders his hoped-for job with the New York Giants.

During his interview with the Giants, Sanders was reportedly presented with a playbook containing hidden mistakes. According to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, this is common practice in the NFL to test young signal callers.

However, the 23-year-old did not notice the mistakes and apparently did not react particularly well to the test presented to him by the Giants officials.

“He didn’t find the mistakes and got a call from the Giants because of it. From that point on, things didn’t go well. He was pissed off that they did that to him,” Breer said on the sports podcast ‘98.5 The Sports Hub’s Zolak & Bertrand.’

Giants pick Jaxson Dart instead of Sanders

For the Giants, this reaction apparently crossed a red line. With their third pick, they selected edge rusher Abdul Carter, and with their 25th pick, quarterback Jaxson Dart. Even when the opportunity arose in the third round to draft Sanders after all, the Big Apple franchise decided against it.

Other teams also distanced themselves from signing the quarterback, who had already played for the Giants in college. According to Breer, Sanders appeared very confident in talks with franchise representatives and was convinced he would finish in the top five of the draft.

What role will Sanders play for the Browns in the future?

Why he didn’t even talk to some teams in the first place, which in hindsight was probably a mistake. The deeper Sanders fell, the more difficult it became for him, as the franchises were reluctant to sign him as a potential backup, according to Breer.

But that’s exactly what the Browns did, having already selected a signal caller in Dillon Gabriel the day before. What role Shedeur Sanders will play in Cleveland in the future is completely open.

Whether he turns out to be a steal or whether the Giants were right in their assessment of his character and abilities will be seen in the coming seasons.
