NFL: Green Bay Packers find successor for president Mark Murphy

Packers president Mark Murphy had announced his retirement for 2025. Now the franchise has found a successor

New strong man for the Green Bay Packers.

The NFL franchise announced that Ed Policy will be the next president and CEO. Previously, Mark Murphy had announced he would retire from the position in July 2025.

“I congratulate Ed on this well-deserved promotion to what I believe is the most unique and important position in the world of professional sports,” the still-president was quoted as saying in a statement from the Packers.

“Ed has been a tremendous asset to the organization in the twelve years he has been here and has been instrumental in our success,” Murphy continued.

And continued, “I have enjoyed working with him and am confident that he will be an outstanding administrator for the organization. In the coming year, he and I will continue to work closely together to ensure a smooth transition for our staff, players and fans. “

Policy succeeds Murphy as Packers president

Policy has been with Green Bay since 2012. He began his career as Vice President and General Counsel before being promoted to Chief Operating Officer in 2018. He will continue in that role for the next year as he settles into Murphy’s post during the transition period.

“I am incredibly honored, excited and grateful to the committee, the board, the shareholders and the entire company for this valuable and unique opportunity,” Policy said. “I am particularly grateful to Mark for his 12 years of mentorship. I look forward to building on his leadership and considerable successes on and off the pitch.”

He added: “This is absolutely the best job in sport. We are the stewards of the most iconic and unique organization in all of professional sports. We are the people’s team, and I love being a part of it.”

The Packers are the only professional franchise in the U.S. that doesn’t have a heavyweight owner. Instead, well over half a million fans own the team as shareholders.
