NFL: Because of D.K. Metcalf – GM of the Seattle Seahawks takes pity on Tyler Lockett

Seahawks GM John Schneider comments on D.K. Meltcalf’s trade request and shows compassion for fellow receiver Tyler Lockett.

Actually, Wednesday should have been Tyler Lockett Day for the Seattle Seahawks. In the end, it became D.K.-Metcalf Day, which the team was obviously not happy about.

After ten years, the NFL franchise announced the release of wide receiver Lockett. A decision made for financial reasons, as the pass receiver had a cap hit of $31 million.

At a press conference, the 32-year-old looked back on his time with the team and was honored for his achievements. However, this did not receive much attention in the press. The reason: on the same day, it was announced that fellow receiver Metcalf wants to leave the Seahawks.

“It was probably not intentional, but we are very disappointed with the timing,“ general manager John Schneider expressed the anger of those in charge at the timing of the Metcalf trade announcement on ‘Seattle Sports 710’.

”We wanted this to be a very special day. We wanted it to be Tyler Lockett day. I feel bad for Tyler. On TV, it’s all about D.K. and not about Tyler Lockett.”

And further: ‘It somehow fits his entire career. This guy is one of the most underrated wide receivers in NFL history.’

Seahawks GM comments on Metcalf

GM Schneider also commented on the Metcalf situation in general. He explained that everything is going in a “cordial and professional manner”. “Obviously D.K. has requested a change, and we are considering it. We are talking to a lot of teams, taking offers, and seeing how things look.”

Schneider, meanwhile, did not rule out keeping Metcalf despite the trade request. But it is clear that the franchise “wants to know what’s going on before the draft,” the GM said.

“Because he’s such an important part of our team, organization and the offensive philosophy that these guys want to push with our new coaching staff, we want to know how we’re going to make up for his loss when he’s not with us.”

If an ideal trade partner is not found, “in the worst case, we will again have a fantastic, explosive, powerful athlete as a receiver.”
