NFL: Back with the San Francisco 49ers – this is how Mark Nzeocha experienced the call

Mark Nzeocha is back in the squad of the San Francisco 49ers. In the interview, he explains how he experienced the decisive call and why he is particularly looking forward to the playoff duel with the Cowboys.

Munich – Behind the San Francisco 49ers lies an exciting weekend.

In order to make it into the NFL playoffs, a win was necessary against the strong Los Angeles Rams. For a long time, however, it did not look as if the Niners would make it into the postseason. They were already trailing 0:17 before the team managed to turn things around.

“We scored three more points before halftime. Then you say it’s a 14-point game, there’s definitely still a chance. In the locker room we said, ‘Hey, we’re in this game. We’re going to get the ball back after halftime and we still have every chance to win this game.’ The air wasn’t out yet,” Mark Nzeocha explained the mood in the dressing room at half-time in the ran interview with Christoph “Icke” Dommisch.

49ers in playoffs after win against Rams

For the linebacker, the past two weeks have probably been the most exciting of the past year. The German hadn’t played football for a year, then out of nowhere came the crucial phone call.

“It was the 28th of December. My agent called me and said, ‘Hey, the Niners would be interested in putting you back on the practice squad.’ I replied, ‘What do you mean? Now?”

And so it came to pass. Three hours later, the franchise wanted to see the 31-year-old on a plane. After just a few practices, Nzeocha was back on the field in Week 17 against the Texans – and shined. He also showed his class in the decisive game against the Rams. After the narrow 27:24 overtime win, San Francisco is in the playoffs.

Nzeocha looking forward to duel against Dallas Cowboys

There it goes for Nzeocha and the 49ers now to the Cowboys. A dream come true for the German. Not only because he was once drafted by Dallas. The linebacker also lives near the Cowboys facility, the AT&T Stadium is only 30 minutes away from his house.

“It almost doesn’t get any better than that. Now my two teams that I’ve always played for in this league are playing each other in the playoffs. I’m looking forward to it mega. The atmosphere will be incredible,” Nzeocha is sure.

And even if he doesn’t make it to the Divisional Round, the German has certainly made an impression in his two appearances so far this season.

“It’s great to have him back here. He’s an absolute professional. A familiar face, familiar with our system. He’s still a very quick, very clever and very physical player. He had the backs of a lot of players last week, so credit to the guys in the personnel department for keeping an eye on him,” special teams coach Richard Hightower had praised him last week.
