Green Bay Packers: Aaron Rodgers attacks US President Joe Biden

Aaron Rodgers is once again causing trouble in the middle of the playoffs with explosive statements about Corona. US President Joe Biden sees Rodgers as a “problem”. In his opinion, “censorship” prevails in the USA.

Munich – Shortly before the Green Bay Packers’ playoff clash against the San Francisco 49ers in the Divisional Round, Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has once again caused a stir with controversial statements about the Corona pandemic. The target of his accusations this time: US President Joe Biden and the US health authority Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), comparable to the German Robert Koch Institute.

In a 28-minute telephone interview with “ESPN”, Rodgers went after Biden, who in December had jokingly told a woman in a Packers jacket that she should get Rodgers to vaccinate her. For the quarterback, however, the problem is not vaccination opponents but Biden: “When the president of the United States says, ‘This is a pandemic of the unvaccinated,’ that’s on him and his constituents, of which I don’t know if there are any, if you look at his public speeches. But well, I guess he got 81 million votes,” Rodgers said.

Rodgers on CDC: “How can you trust them? “

Following up, Rodgers criticised the CDC, “And then there’s the CDC. How can you even trust them? They’re talking about 75 percent of COVID deaths had at least four concomitant diseases.”

Rodgers’ figure on concomitant deaths is probably based on a misinterpretation of a CDC study. This found that in a group of 1.2 million US Americans who were fully vaccinated between December 2020 and October 2021, 36 of them had a COVID-19-related death. Of those 36 people, 28, or about 78 per cent, had at least four risk factors for a severe course.

Aaron Rodgers: “There is censorship in this country “

But Rodgers wasn’t finished. In his opinion, there is censorship in the US: “Is freedom of expression dangerous now if it doesn’t agree with the mainstream? I think that’s what I want people to understand first of all and what people should understand: There is censorship in this country right now. “

Last time Rodgers appeared for a media appearance was in a top that read “Cancel Culture”. Rodgers is one of about a dozen unvaccinated players still in the playoffs, according to “Pro Football Talk.” In the fall of 2021, he was fined by the NFL for attending public events as an unvaccinated player without a mask. Prior to that, he declared in a press briefing that he was “immunised”. In November, the 38-year-old missed a Packers game for the first time since 2017 because of a Corona infection.
