Detroit Lions: Amon-Ra St. Brown – record man and more than just an NFL flash in the pan

The Detroit Lions have dropped out of last place in the NFL’s overall rankings with their surprise victory over the Arizona Cardinals. The guarantor of victory was once again Amon-Ra St. Brown. The German receiver set several records in the process and is proving more and more to be a “steal” in the draft

Detroit/Munich – “He’s a freak, I’m telling you!” Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff went on record about his receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown after the team’s first win of the season against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 13. At the time, the German-American caught the winning touchdown.

Two weeks later, the events repeated themselves: Again the Lions won, again St. Brown got himself on the scoreboard and again Goff was full of praise.

“He’s a freak. He’s a freak, I’ll tell you again and again: he’s a freak. We knew it since training camp,” the playmaker said after the 30-12 loss to the Arizona Cardinals at the following press conference.

St. Brown gives insights on touchdown: “Snuck out “

The receiver of the touchdown also faced the media after the game on Sunday and, just like his quarterback, was also overjoyed.

In doing so, the just 22-year-old gave insights on the touchdown that tight ends coach Ben Johnson designed. “We just put that in the playbook this week,” St. Brown said.

“I was supposed to block the defensive end and then I snuck out. It worked out perfectly against zone coverage because they weren’t paying attention to me,” the Lions receiver added.

Record-holder Amon-Ra must take drug test

Not only did the Lions, already eliminated from the playoffs, trip up a top team in the NFC, Amon-Ra also set records with his statistically productive day (eight catches for 90 yards, one touchdown).

St. Brown is the first player with German nationality to score two touchdowns in the NFL. Previously, Jakob Johnson, Markus Kuhn and Amon-Ra’s brother Equanimeous each found their way into the end zone, but only once. The Lions’ No. 14 hasn’t dropped a pass since Week Two.

In addition, he set a franchise record for catches in a rookie season with now 65 – and with Calvin “Megatron” Johnson, for example, the Lions have had more than one outstanding receiver in their long club history.

As a “reward” for his strong performances lately, the wideout also got an invitation – but not to the Pro Bowl, but to a drug test. Amon-Ra posted this on his Twitter account

For the Lions, it’s off to the Atlanta Falcons in Week 16. Then St. Brown not only aims for his first 100-yard game, but also his first away touchdown.
