Carlos Hyde of the Seattle Seahawks believes that by signing Colin Kaepernick, the NFL would send an important signal in the fight against racism. Hyde himself is not planning a protest for the coming season.
Carlos Hyde, the Seattle Seahawks’ new running back, has been pushing for an NFL comeback of quarterback Colin Kaepernick.
The 29-year-old was asked how the NFL could play its part in fighting racism in the USA.
“I think if a team signed Kaepernick, it would show that the NFL is taking a new direction. Because four years ago, Kap made a statement to draw attention to what is happening in today’s world. At that time the NFL didn’t listen to him, so it would be a good start,” the “Seattle Times” quotes the running back.
Kaepernick and Hyde played together in the 49ers
Hyde played with Kaepernick for the San Francisco 49ers from 2014 to 2016. In 2016, the quarterback began by kneeling during the anthem to protest police violence against African-American society in the U.S. The running back did not participate in the protest at that time. “I listened to him. He explained to me what he was protesting for – and that was all I needed to hear. It was his decision, but I had to concentrate on football. I wanted to win and we still had a season to play.”
Hyde: “Will not protest on your own initiative”
With a similar attitude he will also come to the Seahawks. However, should the team decide to protest together, Hyde will join in: “I will not protest on my own. Hyde played for the 49ers until 2017, when he joined the Houston Texans via the Jacksonville Jaguars. That off-season, the running back signed a one-year contract in Seattle, earning him around $4 million.
