NFL: Tyrann Mathieu praises Mac Jones and shoots against draft experts

Mac Jones of the New England Patriots is currently the quarterback shooting star in the NFL. His meteoric rise has surprised many experts who didn’t see the 23-year-old as a starter before the season began. Kansas City Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu can’t understand those views.

Munich/Kansas City – Six wins out of ten games, 2,333 passing yards and 13 touchdowns with only seven interceptions – the recent development of New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones is currently one of the biggest stories in the NFL.

The 23-year-old is currently outperforming his rookie competition of Trevor Lawrence, Justin Fields and Co.

Many experts wouldn’t have believed Jones could do it, especially in the run-up to the draft the college star was considered the least attractive passer due to his style of play.

Now, one of Jones’ opponents, of all people, is addressing the critics in no uncertain terms.

Mathieu praises Jones, clear criticism for experts

“Mac Jones wasn’t trendy enough for you guys in the beginning and now you all dig him? You guys are ridiculous,” Kansas City Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu fires off on Twitter in the direction of the self-proclaimed quarterback experts.

“People rate him lower just because he can’t make side-arm throws and he doesn’t run fast,” Mathieu continues, referring to the rest of the rookie playmakers who made a splash in college with their spectacular play.

“The kid can play quarterback. Full stop!”

Mac Jones: antithesis of the modern quarterback

Unlike the modern NFL playmaker, Jones isn’t known for his mobility outside the pocket and a strong throwing arm, instead the youngster impresses with his passing accuracy and quick decision-making.

Mathieu isn’t the only prominent NFL personality taking flak from draft experts.

Dan Orlovsky, former quarterback and now a pundit on US sports channel “ESPN”, agrees with the two-time Pro Bowler on Twitter. “Yup yup,” reads the former Detroit Lions playmaker’s simple agreement.

Mac Jones: short trial against Cleveland

Although Jones turned in a terrific season in his final year with the Alabama Crimson Tide, the blond lost out to the other young passers as the draft process progressed. After Trevor Lawrence, Zach Wilson, Trey Lance and Justin Fields, the shooting star was only selected 15th overall by the Patriots.

While the other rookies continue to reveal significant weaknesses, Jones seems to get more confident and stronger week after week.

Against the Cleveland Browns, the 23-year-old scored three touchdowns for the first time in his young career without throwing an interception.
