Former professional footballer Sebastian Vollmer expects the first NFL game on German soil to give the sport a huge boost.
Köln – Former professional football player Sebastian Vollmer (37) expects the first NFL game on German soil to give the sport a huge boost.
“It will immediately trigger a huge hype.
There will be a real explosion with the game in Germany,” said the two-time Super Bowl champion in the current issue of Sports Illustrated (01/22).
Vollmer believes in “up to four games in Germany “
Vollmer, who played for the New England Patriots from 2009 to 2016, doesn’t believe “that the NFL will start slowly in Germany. I expect that we will quickly have up to four games here and many more fans will join.”
Perhaps in 2022, at the latest in 2023, a main round game of the US professional league should take place in Germany. Dusseldorf, Frankfurt and Munich are in the final selection as venues.
“Munich has the biggest and best stadium,” said Vollmer, “but Frankfurt and Düsseldorf have other advantages, for example the location. The NFL wants a long-term partnership that guarantees games in Germany for many years. “
