The NFL is back in Brazil. Another game will be held in Sao Paulo in 2025 – and that will be in week one.
As the league announced on Wednesday, after the great success in 2024 (Eagles vs. Packers at the time), a game will also take place in the largest country in South America in the coming season.
The NFL chose the Los Angeles Chargers as the “home team” for the game in Sao Paulo. The opponent has not yet been determined.
The Chargers’ opponents in 2025 will be the Kansas City Chiefs, Denver Broncos, Las Vegas Raiders, Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts, Washington Commanders, Minnesota Vikings and Pittsburgh Steelers.
One of these teams will be the opponent. Since the Steelers (Dublin) and Colts (Berlin) already play internationally, they are unlikely to be opponents of the Chargers in Sao Paulo.
What is already certain is the date. The ball will be flying in the Corinthians Arena as early as week one, as part of the International Series on Friday evening.
The stadium was already an official venue for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, the 2016 Summer Olympics and the first NFL Regular Season Game in South America last year.
“With more than 36 million fans, Brazil is the second largest international fan base after Mexico and an important global market for the NFL,“ the league said in a statement.
”We are proud to have hosted the first game in NFL history in Brazil, here in our city. The return of the NFL in 2025 shows how well prepared São Paulo is for major events and tourists from around the world,” said Mayor Ricardo Nunes.
In the spring, the NFL will announce the exact kick-off time on September 5 and the opponent of the Los Angeles Chargers as part of the game schedule release.
Up to eight NFL International Games in 2025
Starting in 2025, the NFL will be able to schedule up to eight regular season games organized by the league internationally. The game in Brazil is the seventh to be played outside the U.S. next season.
In addition to three games in London (with the Browns, Jets and Jaguars), there will also be games in Berlin (with the Colts), Madrid (with the Dolphins) and Dublin (with the Steelers).
A first regular season game in Melbourne, Australia, is already planned for 2026. The Los Angeles Rams are already scheduled to be one of the two teams there.
