Football fan Tim becomes a lifesaver with bone marrow donation

Football can save lives. The ranNFL community has proven that once again. With the rantackeltBlutkrebs campaign, ran supports the DKMS in the fight against the insidious disease. Patriots fan Tim thus became a hero. But the fight goes on.

Munich – The ranNFL community is not only positively crazy, it also has a gigantic heart and for that WE LOVE YOU! When ran had a big campaign in October 2020 to find a stem cell donor for Jens, who had blood cancer, 10,000 football fans registered with the DKMS. With breathtaking success.

Since then, three “ranNFLers” have become heroes with their bone marrow donation. They saved Jens’ life and those of three other patients worldwide.

Now a fourth lifesaver joins us in the form of Tim! He has been rooting for the New England Patriots for five years and is a loyal spectator. “The score in between is not decisive, unlike in many other sports. Everything can still change up to the last minute. Even the favourites don’t always automatically walk off the field as winners,” says Tim, describing his fascination for the sport, which he would soon like to play actively himself.

A year ago, the aspiring addiction counsellor followed the ran call. “My little brother was already registered, which of course spurred me on to register with the DKMS. But the decisive incentive was the call for Jens to register last year. All of a sudden it was clear to me: now I’m really going to register!”

“It’s an indescribable feeling “

Recently, Tim received a call from DKMS. A cancer patient from Australia urgently needed his stem cells. The fact that the donation involved an operation under general anaesthetic was no obstacle for Tim. “It was clear that I would donate if I had the opportunity. And today I can say that I would definitely do it again. Even so soon after, it’s just an indescribable feeling.”

Tim now wants to campaign for more football fans to follow his example. Because one in ten blood cancer patients still can’t find a matching donor. “The fact that you can give someone the chance to live on with a small 30-minute procedure is just insane and feels very good. That’s why I’m calling on the whole football community: Join in, register and maybe save a human life!”

We’re joining in. This season, ran is once again calling on all football fans to support the DKMS in the fight against the devilish disease and become stem cell donors under the motto rantackeltBlutkrebs. Every registration counts!
