The NFL world is largely at a standstill following the drama surrounding Bills safety Damar Hamlin. Already on Tuesday, however, the NFL sent an important signal. In a memo to teams, the league offered the opportunity for players and coaches to talk to mental health experts.
The tragic events surrounding the cardiac arrest of Damar Hamlin are still fresh in the minds of players, coaches and fans.
Fortunately, a player suffering a cardiac arrest on the field and thus fighting for his life is a novelty.
But how do you deal with it as a player or coach? Mental health still plays too subordinate a role in football, a sport in which the strongest usually win.
NFL offers players and coaches help with mental health
As Commissioner Roger Goodell personally announced in a memo to teams, the NFL is now providing an offer that every team in the league can take advantage of. This is supposed to be primarily about mentally dealing with such a difficult situation.
“This applies to all clubs whose players and officials need help. Please contact us if this help is needed,” the letter reads.
Roger Goodell’s memo sent to all the NFL teams:
Mental health and support resources were made available for on-site services for the league’s players and staff.

Around the horrific scene in Cincinnati, players were seen horrified, some crying. The Buffalo Bills have to play the New England Patriots in Week 18. However, it will be hard to prepare for this game in the usual way.
