NFL: Matt Patricia to become New England Patriots offensive coordinator

Former Detroit Lions head coach Matt Patricia is expected to become the new offensive coordinator for the New England Patriots. Last season he already worked in an advisory role for head coach Bill Belichick.

Munich – The New England Patriots have apparently found a successor for Josh McDaniels. According to “The Athletic”, Matt Patricia is to step into the role of offensive coordinator. Another candidate would be Joe Judge, who was responsible for the special teams of the “Pats” from 2012 to 2019 before his two years as head coach of the New York Giants and won three Super Bowls as coordinator.

Patricia already worked in an advisory role for head coach Bill Belichick last season. Now he is one of the first contacts for quarterback Mac Jones in his second NFL year.

In the 2010s, Patricia made a name for himself as the Patriots’ defensive coordinator, winning two of his three Vince Lombardi Trophies in that position.

Patricia didn’t find his fortune with the Detroit Lions

2018 he ventured to the Detroit Lions as head coach, but this station was not crowned with success. Shortly after Thanksgiving 2020, he was shown the chair in front of his door after just 13 wins from 42 games.

The 47-year-old last worked exclusively with the offense in 2004, when he was an assistant coach with the Pats.
