NFL – Baltimore Ravens: Lamar Jackson loses contract bonus

Lamar Jackson misses out on a hefty contract bonus with the Baltimore Ravens – but it shouldn’t hurt him too much.

Financial losses for Lamar Jackson: The Baltimore Ravens quarterback is losing $750,000 because he did not participate in enough offseason workouts. So far, he has only shown up at the training facility on May 28, the first week of voluntary OTAs.

According to “Pro Football Talk,” however, he would have had to participate in at least 80 percent of the training sessions to receive the bonus (minus the mandatory minicamp, editor’s note).

The financial loss is unlikely to hurt him too much, though. The playmaker is entering the third year of his five-year, $260 million contract.

Incidentally, the two-time NFL MVP could soon become the league’s top earner anyway. With an average salary of $52 million per year, he currently ranks only tenth, which is due to the general trend in salaries.

Jackson signed his last contract extension in 2023, and a lot has happened since then. The Ravens are aware of this, which is why there could be an adjustment to the contract soon. At least that’s what general manager Eric DeCosta hinted at.

Will Lamar Jackson be the highest-paid player again?

On the “BMore Baseball Podcast,” DeCosta explained that talks are already underway. “We had talks before the draft, after the draft, and also in person last week,” he said. “I think we’re in the early stages of thinking about what an extension might look like.”

Head coach John Harbaugh already said on the sidelines of the NFL owners’ recent annual meeting that Jackson is likely to jump back to the top of the league with his contract. “When the market pays, he’ll be the highest-paid player in football, just like he was last time,” Harbaugh said.

The current top earner is Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, who makes $60 million a year.
