New England Patriots without Bill Belichick? Friends should worry about job security

Five years without a playoff win have not left Patriots head coach Bill Belichick unscathed. Friends of the head coach are concerned about his job security, according to a report.

The New England Patriots without Bill Belichick? For many NFL fans, this scenario is almost unimaginable.

But a report in the Boston Globe suggests that the 71-year-old is nowhere near as secure in the saddle as one might think after six Super Bowl victories.

According to the report, some of the longtime head coach’s friends are worried that the team could soon part ways with him.

Belichick successor already on team?

Concerns may have been fueled in part by statements from club owner Robert Kraft, who recently publicly called for the team to win its first playoff since winning the Super Bowl in the 2018/19 season.

Another role may have been played by the reportedly high-dollar pay raise for linebackers coach Jerod Mayo, which was said to have been personally instigated by Kraft to avoid losing the 37-year-old to another team.

The former pro played for the Patriots from 2008 to 2015 and is being traded as a potential successor to Belichick.
