New England Patriots: Quarterback Brian Hoyer with special greeting to Germany

As part of the NFL International Series, players are allowed to wear the flags of their countries on their helmets. New England Patriots quarterback Brian Hoyer takes the opportunity and sends a special greeting to Germany.

What the quarterback of the New England Patriots has repeatedly emphasised in numerous interviews, he now also shows visually – and now wears the German flag on his helmet.

The first London game of 2022 is coming up in Week 4. On the occasion of the International Series, the NFL allows its players with non-American roots to wear the flags of their home countries on their helmets during this time.

This also applies to US professionals who have ancestors in countries other than the USA.

New England Patriots: Quarterback Hoyer has German roots

Such is the case for Hoyer, who is half German. His father was born near Frankfurt am Main, where the family ran a horse farm.

Later, father Axel and mother Julie emigrated to the USA, where Brian was born a US citizen. He had revealed this to the ranNFL crew at Media Day 2018 before Super Bowl 52.

He will wear his “new” helmet for the first time in the Patriots’ away game on Matchday 4 at the Green Bay Packers in Lambeau Field.

The quarterback is proud of his German heritage and still raves about his grandmother’s cucumber salad. One day he wants to “win a game in Germany and go celebrate at Oktoberfest,” says Hoyer about his connection to his father’s homeland.

Amon-Ra St Brown is also in on the action. “My mum is from Germany, I have German grandparents, I speak German, and every summer the culture has been a part of my life,” the Detroit Lions wide receiver said, “I’m half German. It’s a part of me.”

Consequently, St. Brown will wear black, red and gold on his helmet.

NFL International Games in London, Munich and Mexico City

The Saints-Vikings game at Tottenham Stadium is just the kickoff of the 2022 International Series.

A week later, the New York Giants play the Green Bay Packers at the same venue. On 30 October, the Jacksonville Jaguars host the Denver Broncos in their traditional London home game at Wembley.

The highlight par excellence awaits German NFL fans on 13 November. In Munich’s Allianz Arena, the Tampa Bay Bucaneers with quarterback legend Tom Brady will take on the Seattle Seahawks with star wide receiver DK Metcalf.

And Mexico is at it again: On 21 November, the San Francisco 49ers and the Arizona Cardinals will conclude the International Series 2022 in Mexico City’s Azteca Stadium.
