In the US state of Maine, two teenagers became heroes when they brought a runaway school bus to a halt. Patriots owner Robert Kraft honours them with a special gesture.
Munich – Noble gesture by Robert Kraft. The Patriots owner invited two teenagers from the US state of Maine, who helped bring an out-of-control school bus to a halt, to the New England Patriots’ season opener.
The owner delivered the invitation to the two boys himself during a Zoom call. “You guys are amazing. My team told me what you guys did. You guys really made a statement on that bus.”
On March 14, Connor and Seamus Collins had responded excellently when the driver of their school bus developed an unspecified serious medical problem at the wheel. On board the bus at the time of the incident were 14 middle and high school students.
Student brought bus to a halt on embankment
According to various US media outlets, 16-year-old Connor brought the bus to a halt on an embankment. Meanwhile, his 14-year-old brother Seasmus dialled 911. Other occupants, in turn, helped by rendering aid and stopping passing vehicles.
The police chief of the town of Topsham, where the incident occurred, praised the students for their “thoughtful actions to save lives”.
The 77-year-old driver of the bus died a short time later in a hospital, the responsible US authority announced.
