The new wide receiver for the New England Patriots is JuJu Smith-Schuster. Quite a few wondered if Smith-Schuster could match up with his future head coach Bill Belichick. Now he revealed: Belichick was the main reason for JuJu to sign in New England.
The surprise was partly great when the New England Patriots let Jakobi Meyers go and got JuJu Smith-Schuster in his place.
However, the 26-year-old was probably desperate to get to New England. The pass receiver revealed this in an interview.
Main reason: Head Coach Bill Belichick.
JuJu: “Have great respect for Belichick “
On “NBC,” Smith-Schuster said, “To be honest, it was just Belichick, man,” the wideout explained.
The 26-year-old was also impressed that the Patriots seemed to be trying hard to get him. “It’s not just that I can fill a void here with my skills,” JuJu spoke. “It’s also the feeling of being really wanted here.”
Especially being wanted by arguably the greatest head coach in history, too. “I just have a ton of respect for him. I’ve always been impressed with the Patriots and their unique way,” said Smith-Schuster, who knows the rivalry to Foxborough as a longtime part of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Mac Jones? “Can’t wait to get started “
Ju also has nothing but warm words for his future quarterback Mac Jones. “The guy lives and loves New England. He’s the definition of a patriot. Ever since I’ve been here, every time I’ve looked, he’s been there working out to make himself and them better,” the wide receiver enthused.
“I mean, he was in the pro bowl his rookie season. He’s got a lot of potential. I can’t wait to get started with him,” Smith-Schuster burns with anticipation.
However, he will officially have to wait until mid-April. Then teams with the old head coach will be allowed to hold official workouts together.
