New England Patriots: Bill Belichick is threatened with a negative record

Measured by titles, Bill Belichick is the most successful coach in NFL history. Yet, his great career could soon be tainted.

Bill Belichick is the most successful head coach in the NFL.

He has won the Super Bowl six times with the New England Patriots and Tom Brady.

Yet the 71-year-old’s illustrious career could soon be tainted by a major flaw.

Belichick still 13 losses away from negative record

Belichick is already threatening a negative record in the upcoming NFL season, which begins for the Patriots with a home game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sept. 10.

If he loses 13 games in the regular season, he would have set the record for most losses in the majors. That currently stands at 165 losses and is held by Dan Reeves and Jeff Fisher.

Admittedly, that’s not very realistic with only 17 games. However, the Patriots’ opponents this coming season have their work cut out for them.

In addition to the six games against strong competition from the AFC East with the Buffalo Bills, the Miami Dolphins and the New York Jets, New England has other notable opponents waiting for them.

Tough opponents for the New England Patriots

After the opener against the Eagles, who were last in the Super Bowl, they still have to face the current champion Kansas City Chiefs, the Dallas Cowboys, the New York Giants and the Los Angeles Chargers during the course of the regular season.

Of course, Belichick, whose coaching career began in 1975 as assistant coach of the then Baltimore Colts, is also one of the head coaches with an immense number of victories.

But he would still have to celebrate 30 wins in the regular season before he breaks this record. Don Shula is currently the undisputed leader in this category with 328 wins.
