Four times Taylor Swift has been in the stadium this season. The numbers prove it: The pop singer is having a positive impact on the Kansas City Chiefs and Travis Kelce.
Andy Reid had to laugh.
However, the head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs also has a good laugh. Because the Super Bowl winner is clearly benefiting from the Taylor Swift effect as much as Travis Kelce.
“Taylor can stay as long as she wants,” joked Reid about the pop singer, who once again watched the 31:17 win over the Los Angeles Chargers live in the stadium on Sunday. The two lovebirds have still not made a relationship public.
But it’s not just a feeling that the two superstars’ working chemistry is leaving a positive vibe. Because the numbers prove the Swift effect pretty clearly.
When the pop star was in the stadium, the Chiefs finished with a 4-0 record. The team averaged 28.5 points per game and totaled 432.3 total yards. Kelce also delivered, catching balls for 108 yards per game. Sunday’s 179 yards are the second most of his career.
And if the Swift effect fails to materialize when the singer isn’t on hand?
Kelce worth less than half without Swift
In three games, there was a loss, only 21.3 points per game and 349.3 total yards. Kelce isn’t even worth half that without Swift, getting 46.5 yards in those games.
On top of that, though, the duo of Patrick Mahomes and Kelce has elevated to a new level recently.
Again, the numbers are impressive.
In the past three games, Mahomes has brought 31 balls to Kelce on 33 attempts, including 29 in a row. According to NFL.com, that’s the sixth-longest streak by a quarterback throwing to a single pass receiver, plus it’s the longest streak by a playmaker targeting a single tight end since at least 1991.
“I think the most important thing is the way he recognizes coverage and adjusts on the fly,” Mahomes said of Kelce. “That’s something you can’t take for granted. It’s almost like he’s playing Madden, like he can read coverage and stop in the windows and be open and be on the same page with me at all times. That’s what he does week in and week out, and that’s why he’s going to be in the Hall of Fame one day. “
