Kansas City Chiefs: Tight end Travis Kelce is thinking about ending his career

Travis Kelce has been playing in the NFL for over ten years. The 34-year-old has dominated the league for years as one of the best tight ends in history. But for how much longer?

Travis Kelce has probably never been this specific about his possible career end.

The 34-year-old, who is now in his eleventh NFL season, only recently spoke openly about his future. In an interview with “WSJ. Magazine”, Kelce said that he is constantly thinking about retirement and that this is a fact that he “thinks about more than people can imagine.”

Kelce has largely been spared serious injuries in his career, but has had to undergo ten operations.

“That’s the one thing I’ve never really talked about openly: the discomfort, the pain,” Kelce said. “The ongoing injuries, the ten operations I’ve had. To this day, I feel every single surgery.”

The two-time Super Bowl champion was selected in the third round of the 2013 draft by the Kansas City Chiefs, but missed 15 games of his rookie season due to a knee injury.

Travis Kelce: Retirement together with brother Jason?

The tight end was lucky, though. In the ten (and a half) seasons that followed, Kelce only missed a total of four games.

Travis’ brother Jason Kelce has also been thinking about ending his career for some time. The 36-year-old lost the Super Bowl to Travis and the Chiefs last season with the Philadelphia Eagles.

It is therefore quite possible that both players will announce their retirement from the NFL at the same time. Or to put it in the words of Taylor Swift:

“So it’s gonna be forever?
Or it’s gonna go down in flames?
You can tell me when it’s over,
if the high was worth the pain!”
