Before the AFC Championship Game, there was a lot of trash talk coming out of Cincinnati towards Kansas City. After making it to the Super Bowl, the Chiefs’ two biggest stars have their answers
This game was anything but easy for him. In the Divisional Round, Patrick Mahomes suffered an ankle sprain – actually an injury that results in a break of several weeks.
Nevertheless, the quarterback was on the field with his Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game that night, defeating the Cincinnati Bengals 23-20.
“I want to thank God. He healed my body this week so I could get through this. He gave me the strength to be out here,” the signal caller told “CBS” afterwards.
Mahomes and Kelce jab at Bengals
However, Mahomes was not entirely without jibes against the losing Bengals in the interview. He explained that he had been aware of the trash talk from Cincinnati. Bengals players and fans had repeatedly referred to the Chiefs’ stadium as “Burrowhead”. In reference to the fact that their playmaker Joe Burrow was able to win three times against the Chiefs last time.
“We have shown this place that it is Arrowhead and not Burrowhead,” Mahomes stated with satisfaction. Mahomes also knew to comment on the habit of Burrow and his teammates of smoking a cigar after victories.
“I don’t think we have cigars, but we’ll be ready for the Super Bowl,” he declared.
Incidentally, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce also spoke out on the “Burrowhead” matter. He interrupted his quarterback’s TV interview to tell the world what he thought of the Bengals’ trash talk: “Burrowhead at the Ars**, that’s Mahomes’ house. “
