Kansas City Chiefs dismantle Denver Broncos’ offence for 16th straight win

The Kansas City Chiefs remain the Denver Broncos’ fearsome opponent. To open Week 6 of the NFL, the Broncos’ recently improved offense failed to deliver.

The Kansas City Chiefs have mastered their duty against the Denver Broncos with a work victory and without shine. In the Thursday Night Game of Week 6, the reigning Super Bowl winners won 19-8 (13-0) at home in Arrowhead Stadium and remain on course for the playoffs with a record of 5-1.

The Broncos’ fifth defeat in their sixth game means they are barely in contention for the play-offs. For the Chiefs, it was their 16th consecutive win against their division rivals from Colorado.

Unlike in previous weeks, however, this time it was the Broncos’ offence that was unable to compete against the Chiefs’ strong defence. Quarterback Russell Wilson only managed 95 passing yards in the entire game and threw one touchdown, but also two interceptions.

The running game didn’t step into the breach either, with Javonte Williams, returning from injury, being his team’s best rusher with 52 yards. It wasn’t until deep in the final quarter that Denver even got its only points of the game, when Wilson Courtland found Sutton with a pass in the end zone.

The Broncos’ defence, however, which had been the clear weak point in the previous games, showed great improvement against Patrick Mahomes and Co. Mahomes had to settle for a touchdown pass to Kadarius Toney in the second quarter, the rest was contributed by kicker Harrison Butker via field goals. Mahomes was also intercepted once.

With 305 yards through the air, Mahomes was still able to move the ball reliably, relying as usual on tight end Travis Kelce, who clearly led his team with 124 yards. That also pleased pop star Taylor Swift in the stands.

In Week 7, the Chiefs face the Los Angeles Chargers again at home on Sunday after next. The Broncos host the Green Bay Packers on the same day.
