Houston Texans: J.J. Watt allegedly incited a revolt against Bill O’Brien

After four defeats at the start of the season the Houston Texans sack Bill O’Brien. Previously, there is said to have been a player revolt against the head coach. The mutiny was obviously instigated by superstar J.J. Watt.

Head Coach Bill O’Brien had to take his hat off to the Houston Texans already after the fourth NFL game day of the 2020 season. The impulse for the dismissal apparently came from the team. According to consistent US media reports, there was already a “heated argument” between J.J. Watt and the head coach several weeks ago.

The star defensive end is said to have openly questioned O’Brien’s coacing abilities. This incident is said to have triggered a player revolt against his own coach. Several anonymous players confirmed in response to a question from NFL Network reporter Jordan Palmer that the coach had lost the backing of the team. After a 0-4 start O’Brien had hardly any arguments on his side – the Texans leadership pulled the rip cord.

Houston Texans: O’Brien’s personnel management met with criticism
O’Brien, who also served as General Manager in Houston, had already attracted criticism in the off-season with his personnel decisions. Especially the trade from star receiver DeAndre Hopkins to the Arizona Cardinals caused incomprehension.

Until the end of the season the former O’Brien assistant Romeo Crennel will take over the position of interim head coach at the Texans. Jack Easterby, previously Executive Vice President of Football Operations, will act as General Manager. After the season, the franchise will first hire a new GM, who will then be allowed to choose his favorite head coach.
