Hard Knocks with Aaron Rodgers? New York Jets still reluctant to react

Four teams are being considered to star in the “HBO” documentary Hard Knocks. The New York Jets are considered the favourite. Enthusiasm is limited, even though the team is not ruling out participation.

Behind-the-scenes looks are always especially coveted by NFL fans. Basically every team has stories to offer, especially in the pre-season when the Emmy award-winning “HBO” series “Hard Knocks” is filmed as part of training camp.

But there are teams that have a bit more going on than others. More drama, more spats, more storylines.

There’s a lot of potential this year with the New York Jets, for example.

New York Jets: Lots of story potential

Should the trade of Aaron Rodgers from the Green Bay Packers to the “Big Apple” work out, that alone would provide enough material – Rodgers has never been part of the documentary so far.

However, with new offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, numerous ambitious young stars and a team that could play a good role athletically in 2023, there are numerous other storylines for the documentary. Not to mention those not even on the radar yet.

The Jets are one of four teams that can be selected for the 2023 season, the other three being the Chicago Bears, New Orleans Saints and Washington Commanders.

Among the stipulations is that the selected team has not been to the playoffs in the past two seasons and has not changed its head coach for this season.

NFL teams: little desire for distraction

Now, teams generally don’t mind being followed by cameras during training camp. Stories surrounding the team can then also cause additional commotion.

It seems that the Jets are still not very excited about playing the lead role for the second time since 2010. Jets owner Woody Johnson commented on the documentary at the league meeting in Phoenix and did not rule out participation. He said it would be “looked at closely” if approached about participating, which has not happened yet.

Coach Robert Saleh said he wanted to stay out of it.

Johnson conceded, however, that the attention the Jets received from Hard Knocks in 2010 had been “tremendous”. With current conditions, that should be the case in 2023 as well.
