The Kansas City Chiefs are without two wide receivers for the time being due to injury. The already tight personnel situation is likely to pose a challenge for the offense.
In the aftermath of the Kansas City Chiefs’ defeat in the top game against the Philadelphia Eagles, the wide receivers of Head Coach Andy Reid’s team came in for particular criticism.
The pass receivers recorded four drops, including a potentially game-deciding one by Marquez Valdes-Scantling.
It was the culmination of an already disappointing position group this season. Mecole Hardman and Kadarius Toney are now also out for the upcoming weekend. Hardman has been placed on the Injured Reserve list with a thumb injury. Toney has both ankle and hip issues and will also be sidelined against the Las Vegas Raiders.
Both players were still on the field against the Eagles. Kansas City’s receivers have accumulated 1423 yards this season, 142.3 yards per game. By comparison, former Chief Tyreek Hill currently stands at 1324 yards for the Miami Dolphins alone.
Kansas City Chiefs: Richie James returns
Of course, the Chiefs offense also relies heavily on tight end Travis Kelce. However, the veteran is often singled out by defenses as a focal point and receives a lot of attention. He alone cannot shoulder the pass offense.
Perhaps quarterback Patrick Mahomes can connect with Richie James Jr. in the coming weeks. The feisty slot receiver returns to the squad after recovering from an injury in week two.
