Minnesota Vikings: Kirk Cousins talks about uncertain future – “I’m still mad”

Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins has spoken publicly about his future for the first time since tearing his Achilles tendon.

The Minnesota Vikings are having a solid season and still have every chance of making the playoffs with a 6-4 record – despite the absence of starting quarterback Kirk Cousins.

The playmaker suffered a torn Achilles tendon in a game against the Green Bay Packers at the end of October and will not play again this season.

The 35-year-old has now spoken to the media for the first time since his serious injury, giving an insight into his emotional world and looking ahead to his uncertain future.

“There are a lot of thoughts going through your head and one of them was: ‘Is this the last time I’m going to play football? Now, after a few weeks, I can say: No, it’s not. I’m looking forward to writing the next chapter and I’m excited to see what God has in store for me,” says Cousins, who has been playing for the Vikings since 2018.

He continued: “I’m still angry. I’m still disappointed. But then you go back to all the things you know. I can’t change it. You have to move forward. That’s what we commit to when we step between the white lines. “

Minnesota Vikings: Kirk Cousins will become a free agent in March 2024

Cousins’ contract in Minnesota expires after the 2023 season and he will become a free agent in March if he does not extend before then. He has already announced talks, but only in due course.

“We have so much to focus on this season. The guys are playing so well, and that’s what we really need to focus on,” Cousins said, shifting the focus to other things but making it clear that an exchange “will happen.”

General manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah did not rule out a Cousins comeback next year earlier this month, saying that “all options are open”. According to media reports, however, the Vikings are certainly considering selecting a quarterback in the upcoming draft.

The present at the quarterback position, however, is Josh Dobbs, who came from Arizona shortly before the trade deadline and is currently writing a football fairy tale
