Josh Jacobs is one of the best running backs in the NFL. Because he has still not reached an agreement with the Las Vegas Raiders on a contract extension, a holdout is becoming increasingly realistic
The contract dispute between the Las Vegas Raiders and Josh Jacobs could result in a holdout for the running back.
Currently, it is said to be “more realistic than ever” that Jacobs will not suit up for the Raiders in week one of the upcoming NFL season.
“One situation that nobody is talking about is Josh Jacobs. At this point, unless there’s a long-term deal, I don’t expect Jacobs to be there at the start of training camp and I don’t know if he’s going to show up in Week 1,” NFL insider Tom Pelissero said during a recent appearance on “The Rich Eisen Show. “
The clock is ticking: Do the Raiders and Jacobs still agree?
Las Vegas has until July 17 to reach an agreement with the 25-year-old on a long-term contract. Otherwise, he will have to play under the franchise tag next season, which will pay him around ten million US dollars.
Last season, Jacobs crowned himself the league’s rushing leader with 1,653 yards. He also ran for twelve touchdowns and collected 400 receiving yards. Jacobs would thus have plenty of arguments for a long-term and high-paying contract on his side.
For every game he sits out, he would forfeit 1/17 of the $10 million tender associated with the franchise tag.
