Damar Hamlin is received by US President Biden at the White House.

Special moment for Damar Hamlin: Nearly four months after his cardiac arrest, the Buffalo Bills’ NFL pro has been received by US President Joe Biden at the White House.

Professional football player Damar Hamlin has been welcomed to the White House by US President Joe Biden almost four months after his cardiac arrest. “The President thanked Damar for his courage, resilience and drive that has inspired the American people,” a statement from the seat of government in Washington D.C. read.

Biden praised Hamlin “for his efforts to bring people together and make life-saving technologies more widely available,” it added.

Doctors optimistic: Hamlin can play again

Defensive end Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest on 2 January in his Buffalo Bills’ NFL main-round game at the Cincinnati Bengals and had to be resuscitated on the field. He then spent a total of nine days in two hospitals. His doctors, however, said Hamlin would be able to play again.

Just a month later, Hamlin launched a campaign for proper behaviour in medical emergencies. As part of a social media challenge, the 24-year-old joined forces with the American Heart Association (AHA) to spread information about the technique and application of cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
