Lamar Jackson continues to dominate the headlines. In a memorandum, the NFL has now warned all 32 teams against negotiating with a person named Ken Francis about the quarterback.
The NFL is warning teams against Ken Francis. In a message sent to all 32 NFL clubs, they were advised that a person by that very name may be trying to contact franchises about negotiating for Lamar Jackson.
Because the Florida man was not approved by the NFLPA players’ union as a consultant, talks with him about the quarterback or other players would not be allowed.
Jackson responded by denying on Twitter – including a dig at NFL insider Tom Pelissero – that Francis would try to negotiate a contract for him.
On his social media channels, the quarterback nonetheless referred to the Florida man as a business partner.
Jackson franchise tagged by Ravens
Jackson’s contract with the Baltimore Ravens expired after last season.
Since player and team again failed to agree on a new working paper, the Ravens placed the franchise tag on the 26-year-old, who is personally handling the negotiations.
Since Baltimore used the so-called non-exclusive franchise tag, other clubs are allowed to talk to the playmaker about a contract.
If an agreement is reached, the Ravens can decide whether to make Jackson an offer at the same level or let him move.
Contract talks drag on
If the decision is negative, the quarterback could move for two first-round picks.
Contract talks between the 26-year-old and Baltimore had already failed to reach an agreement in the previous offseason.
According to reports, the playmaker wants a working paper along the lines of Deshaun Watson’s with the Cleveland Browns.
Watson received a five-year, fully guaranteed $230 million contract extension with the Browns prior to last season.
Ravens with concern over injuries
It is widely believed that Jackson is demanding a higher salary than the 27-year-old.
Baltimore is said to be reluctant to accept those terms mainly due to concerns about the impact of injuries on Jackson’s run-heavy style of play
