Jerry Rosburg, interim head coach of the Denver Broncos, has come out in defence of quarterback Russell Wilson. According to him, criticism of the 34-year-old is “bullshit”.
Following the firing of Nathaniel Hackett, Jerry Rosburg is taking over as interim head coach of the Denver Broncos. The 67-year-old dismissed criticism of quarterback Russell Wilson during a press conference.
“That’s a lot of bullshit. I see him here every day on the practice field, I see how he performs. I see a Hall of Famer,” Rosburg said.
In addition to Rosburg, a host of Broncos players have defended their quarterback over the past few days – from wide receiver Jerry Jeudy to offensive tackle Garett Bolles to running back Melvin Gordon, who was sacked a few weeks ago. All of them dubbed the criticism of Wilson as “completely over the top” or “wrong. “
Jerry Rosburg: “Can make a statement against Chiefs”
Following last week’s 14:51 debacle against the Los Angeles Rams (Wilson threw three interceptions), Broncos legend Shannon Sharpe, among others, criticized Wilson for “putting himself above teammates” with his attitude.
For Rosburg, it’s clear that a response to the criticism can be made on the turf: “We can make a statement against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. We’ll play well, coach well and give Wilson the opportunities to show he’s a great quarterback.”
Wilson signed a five-year contract in the offseason that could pay him as much as $247 million. The Broncos traded tight end Noah Fant, quarterback Drew Lock, defensive tackle Shelby Harris, two first- and second-round picks each and a fifth-round pick for Wilson and a fourth-round pick.
The 34-year-old amassed just over 3,000 passing yards, 60 percent completion percentage, 12 touchdowns and nine interceptions in his Broncos career to date.
