Pete Carroll: “Drew Lock would have been the first quarterback selected in this year’s NFL Draft”

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll gave some insight into his team’s current quarterback situation – highlighting Drew Lock in particular – at a post-2022 NFL Draft press conference.

Munich – The Seattle Seahawks did not select a quarterback in the 2022 NFL Draft, seemingly relying on the quarterbacks already on the roster. A few days ago, head coach Pete Carroll already swept possible trade rumours off the table.

In an interview with radio station “KJR”, Carroll backed his new protege, Drew Lock.

“I think he would have been the first quarterback picked in this draft,” Carroll said. Lock was one of the players in the trade deal with the Denver Broncos, who received Russell Wilson, among others, in return.

New signing Lock impresses

Currently, the Hawks have four quarterbacks in the lineup with veteran Geno Smith, Lock and youngsters Jacob Eason and Levi Lewis. Lock seems to be the favourite for the starter position.

“Drew (Lock) is an athletic, confident quarterback. He moves well, has a strong arm and a quick release,” praised Carroll.

Whether Lock or another Seahawks quarterback will take the field as the starter on the first day of the game remains to be seen. Alternatively, Jimmy Garoppolo or Baker Mayfield could be considered, but Carroll is said to have little interest in a new addition.
