In early April, Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins died in a tragic accident. Now family, friends, teammates and coaches said their goodbyes at an emotional memorial service.
Munich – The Pittsburgh Steelers said goodbye to their late quarterback Dwayne Haskins at a memorial service.
More than 100 members of the athlete’s family, plus friends, former teammates and coaches paid their last respects. Those in attendance at the Allegheny Center Alliance Church in Pittsburgh included Diontae Johnson, Mitch Trubisky and Cam Heyward.
Also present for the roughly 90-minute ceremony were his former Ohio State coach Urban Meyer, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin, general manager Kevin Colbert and team owner Art Rooney II.
The church’s altar was decorated with memorabilia from Haskins’ football career, with four jerseys flanking the closed casket as a reminder of his various stops (Bullis, Ohio State, Commanders, Steelers). Speakers included Steelers coach Tomlin, agent Cedric Saunders and wife Kalabrya Haskins at the lectern.

The athlete’s parents, on the other hand, did not attend the event, citing the fact that they had not yet met their son’s wife and that the funeral service was not the right place to do so.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, Haskins’ wife released three white doves over the coffin.
Dwayne Haskins had died on 9 April after being hit by a dump truck while trying to cross a highway. He was only 24 years old.
