Six losses in a row were too much: The Baltimore Ravens have parted ways with defensive coordinator Don Martindale. He was already part of the Ravens’ coaching staff during their Super Bowl victory.
Munich – Six losses in a row and the worst pass defence of any NFL team – the Baltimore Ravens were in dire straits in the second half of the season. Now the franchise, which has yet to clinch a playoff spot as a result of the negative run, has parted ways with defensive coordinator Don Martindale.
“After several productive conversations, Don and I have agreed to go our separate ways,” head coach John Harbaugh said in a statement. “We have had a great run on defense and I am very proud of what we have accomplished and the job he has done. Don has been a big part of the success of our defense since 2012 and especially since he became defensive coordinator four years ago. He’s done a great job. Now it’s time to move on to other opportunities. Sometimes the moment comes and it’s the right time. I’m personally grateful for our friendship and for everything he’s done in Baltimore. “
Defensive end with injury concerns
Martindale was linebackers coach for the Ravens when they won the Super Bowl in 2013. In 2018, he was promoted to defensive coordinator.
With an average of 363.4 yards allowed, the Ravens defence ranked 25th in the league this past regular season. 278.9 passing yards allowed per game was a league low. However, Baltimore was plagued by injury problems, especially in the secondary: cornerback Marcus Peters missed the entire season due to a torn cruciate ligament. Cornerback Marlon Humphrey missed the final spurt for the playoffs due to a pectoral muscle injury.
