The Jacksonville Jaguars can probably strike again as the first team in the 2022 draft. With a 2-13 record, the No. 1 pick even beckons as early as next weekend.
Munich – The Jacksonville Jaguars have a hand on the “1”. Again.
Because in the NFL, as we all know, the biggest loser of the season is also the biggest draft “winner” who gets the number 1 pick. After the 2020 season, that pick will probably go to Florida in 2021.
It may even be a foregone conclusion after the upcoming game day that the Jags have the top pick in the 2022 draft.
Detroit Lions need to win
At the moment, the Jaguars are at a 2-13 record after going 21-26 at the New York Jets. If they lose at the New England Patriots on Sunday and wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown’s Detroit Lions (2-12-1) win at the Seattle Seahawks, the Jaguars would be assured the first pick in the draft early.
But it would be a surprise anyway if the Jaguars let the pick slip away. In this year’s draft, the team had selected quarterback Trevor Lawrence. But under coach Urban Meyer, who has since been fired, the new start was a failure.
With two days left in the regular season, the Jaguars are tied for first in the draft order with the Lions, followed by the Houston Texans, Jets and New York Giants (all 4-11).
