NFL: Pittsburgh Steelers’ T.J. Watt chases sack record

T.J. Watt isn’t the NFL’s highest-paid defender for nothing. The Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker has been a nightmare for opposing quarterbacks so far this season – and on his way to setting an NFL record.

Munich – 3.5 sacks, six tackles, one forced fumble! T.J. Watt’s work record against the Baltimore Ravens had it all.

After the linebacker of the Pittsburgh Steelers had long been questionable for the game on Sunday – Watt had a positive coronary test a week before – he delivered an even more impressive performance against Lamar Jackson and Co.

3.5 sacks marked a new career-best for the Steelers’ No. 90 and catapulted him to a career-high 16 sacks in 2021.

T.J. Watt: NFL record in sight

For Watt to reach those 16 sacks in just ten games this season shows just how valuable the 27-year-old is to quarterback Ben Roethlisberger’s team.

Watt is also only the second player in league history to record more than 13 sacks in four consecutive seasons. Previously, only Reggie White, who to this day is considered one of the NFL’s best quarterback chasers and who passed away in 2004 at just 43 years old, had achieved this.

But that’s still up in the air for now. First up is Minnesota’s visit to Pittsburgh next week. Watt’s next potential victim: Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins.
