Mark Nzeocha harshly criticises Jason Garrett: “He embarrassed me”

After the firing of Jason Garrett by the New York Giants, Mark Nzeocha doesn’t have a good word to say about the offensive coordinator. Garrett was Nzeocha’s head coach for two years with the Dallas Cowboys.

Munich – Jason Garrett is no longer offensive coordinator of the New York Giants. He was relieved of his duties in the Big Apple earlier this week.

Mark Nzeocha played under Garrett for the Dallas Cowboys in the 2015 and 2016 seasons and had little good to say about him on “Prime Time Football” on the Football Bromance’s Twitch channel.

Nzeocha: “He disrespected me “

“I’m not a Jason Garrett fan,” Nzeocha said right off the bat. “We’ve had things over the years where I have to say: He disrespected me a couple of times there. He’s also embarrassed me in team meetings.”

“I wasn’t there because of him, but because of the front office,” the linebacker described his situation in Dallas at the time: “He never liked me. During video analysis, he would sometimes ask, ‘What are you doing here?’ When I would explain what I was trying to do on the play, he would immediately say, ‘That’s idiotic.’ That’s exactly why you don’t play anymore!’ That’s when I felt ashamed.”

“There was also a lot of below the belt stuff,” Nzeocha continued, “So I was glad when I was out of there at some point. “

Also criticism of the game scheme

But it’s not just Jason Garrett as a person that the Super Bowl contender finds fault with, he’s also critical of the scheme of his offense. “He didn’t get fired because he’s an ace. He was fired because his offence is so simplistic. It was back then with the Cowboys.”

He said individual quality was the deciding factor: “The only reason we were successful: because we had such blatantly good players. “

“You establish the run game, then you play play action and screens. That’s his entire offense and it’s incredibly easy to defend. The culprit for why it didn’t work out for the Giants, to me, is Garrett,” the Franconia native continued.

Later, he also gave insights into gameplan meetings of Garrett – which were rather simplistic. “Every Wednesday, the gameplan was, number 21 (Ezekiel Elliott, ed.), you get the ball and we run them down. Every week that was the gameplan,” the linebacker explained.

Well San Francisco

When Nzeocha joined the San Francisco 49ers in 2017, it was “a night and day difference” for him, the former special teams ace said.

“All of a sudden the coaches were friendlier, the training was easier, it was explained a lot better. I had no idea, I came to the Cowboys as a rookie,” reports the 31-year-old, who made the Super Bowl with the 49ers in the 2019 season.

Why Garrett was head coach of the Dallas Cowboys for nine years after all, Nzeocha explains with the good relationship with owner Jerry Jones: “He was Jerry’s puppet. Whenever it came down to it, he had a good season that saved him. For example, in 2016 when Dak (Prescott, ed.) came to us. We went 13-3 and bang – contract extension.”

Incidentally, Garrett’s successor as the Giants’ offensive coordinator will be Freddie Kitchens, who was head coach of the Cleveland Browns in 2018 and 2019.
