A mood of crisis prevails at the Cleveland Browns after the 7:45 debacle at the New England Patriots. Numerous players criticise the tactical settings and the match plan of the coaching staff.
Munich/Cleveland – The week before, the Cleveland Browns were still playing big with a 41:16 win over the in-form Cincinnati Bengals. Only one game day later, crisis mood prevails after the 7:45 at the New England Patriots. Some games criticised the tactical approach.
Offensive guard Joel Bitonio found clear words after the defeat and did not stop at the coaching staff around Head Coach Kevin Stefanski: “I have no other explanation than that we were outplayed and outcoached. We were in a position where we just had to go out and perform.”
Cleveland would only get on the scoreboard once: “In our first drive, we did what we wanted to do: We ran the ball, made some good passes and scored a touchdown and then we didn’t have a good drive after that.”
Bitonio was then to be really clear: “That was embarrassing. We embarrassed ourselves today and they deserve all the credit. They outplayed us. “
Garrett criticises questionable match plan
Defensive end Myles Garrett echoed the same sentiment, noting that the Patriots “kept attacking where (Cleveland, ed.) had deficiencies” and suggested that his coaches had not adjusted well to New England’s game plan.
Accordingly, the pass rusher had a hard time coming up with explanations for how New England was able to pour 184 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns into a top-5 run defense in the league.
“We didn’t make adjustments, they kept scoring and we didn’t counter,” the quarterback chaser explained, noting, “I mean, we’ve got to be better.”
Even quarterback Baker Mayfield was unusually clear when asked about consequences for the performance he presented, “Everybody in our building has to look in the mirror and re-evaluate things and be accountable to themselves and each other. Because we are at a point where we thought we would be better off now. But we are not. “
