NFL – “Thank You, Football”: Russell Wilson Officially Retires

After accepting a job as a TV analyst, the quarterback officially retired from the NFL.

It’s official: Russell Wilson is hanging up his football cleats. In an emotional video posted on his social media channels on Wednesday, the 37-year-old quarterback bid farewell to the NFL and his fan base with the words: “Thank You, Football. Love, 3.”

“I thank football. I thank you, I thank you, I thank you. I am forever grateful,” Wilson said in his retirement announcement.

In the three-minute retrospective on his career, Wilson thanked all his former coaches—mentioning Pete Carroll by name—his teammates, the fans, the city of Seattle, his late father, as well as his wife Ciara and his children. The message was clear: A chapter has closed.

Wilson also confirmed his move to CBS Sports, where he will appear as an analyst on the show “NFL Today.” In doing so, he turned down a contract offer from the New York Jets, who wanted to sign him as a backup behind Geno Smith.

The former Seahawks star’s career has been turbulent: After ten successful years in Seattle, including a Super Bowl title in 2014, his move to the Denver Broncos in 2022 led to one of the biggest disappointments in NFL history. Denver had the worst offense in the league, and Wilson was eventually released.

With the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2024, he made a remarkable comeback and was selected for the Pro Bowl for the tenth time. His final stop, the New York Giants in the 2025 season, ended with him losing his starting spot to rookie Jaxson Dart.

Over 14 seasons, he accumulated 46,966 passing yards, 353 touchdown passes, one Super Bowl ring, and ten Pro Bowl nominations
