NFL – Stefon Diggs: Potential Destinations for the Star Wide Receiver

Stefon Diggs wants to return to the NFL. In theory, the path is clear; he “just” needs a team. We take a look at potential destinations.

Since Stefon Diggs was acquitted in the criminal trial for alleged strangulation and assault, the path back to the NFL could now be clear for him.

He left no doubt that he wants to be playing in the world’s best football league in 2026 as well.

On Instagram, he wrote: “This isn’t a sport where opinions matter, so here are the numbers: I played in 52% of the plays and, after a ACL injury, caught 85 passes for 1,045 yards. Where is this journey headed?”

The 32-year-old accompanied the post with a highlight reel of his best plays from the past season with the New England Patriots.

Las Vegas Raiders

The Raiders are in the midst of a major overhaul; after disappointing seasons, changes are urgently needed. The most important one has already been made: first-round pick Fernando Mendoza is set to be the quarterback of the future.

What helps in developing a talented but inexperienced playmaker are seasoned receivers that Mendoza can rely on in his first season. Diggs would be just the person. Not to mention that the receiver would elevate the offense to a whole new level in general.

And of course: In the NFL, it’s always about the network, about old connections. He has already played alongside veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins, and he also knows head coach Klint Kubiak.

Tennessee Titans

A similar case to the Raiders. Except that last year’s top draft pick, Cam Ward, is entering his second season. He, too, could use some help at receiver to take the next steps.

And there are connections here as well: The fact that Titans OC Brian Daboll and Diggs know each other well from their time together with the Buffalo Bills certainly wouldn’t hurt if they were considering a move.

Washington Commanders

After a disappointing season, the Commanders want quarterback Jayden Daniels to build on his rookie year in his third NFL season. At the same time, the Commanders are also aiming for the playoffs.

One move could be to add a strong second receiver alongside Terry McLaurin, which is where Diggs would come into play. He could make the Commanders’ offense more versatile and provide Daniels with more high-quality passing options. Financially, signing him wouldn’t be a problem either.

Los Angeles Rams

No, the Rams aren’t really in need with Puka Nacua and Davante Adams. However, Head Coach Sean McVay’s team, led by veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford, is in “win-now” mode—that is, in the Super Bowl window—before a major overhaul could soon take place.

Here, Diggs could add quality depth to the roster and bring more versatility to the offense. Whether he would slot in behind Nacua and Adams is another question, but healthy competition can also be inspiring. It could also help take some pressure off Adams, who is a year older.

Houston Texans

Diggs has already played for the Texans, and that worked out well in the 2024 season before he suffered a knee injury. Now a return could be on the cards, as the Texans could use some quality at the receiver position.

Diggs has already proven that he can work well with quarterback C.J. Stroud. As with other teams, it will depend, among other things, on what Diggs wants in terms of money and contract length.

His contract in New England was a three-year deal worth $69 million. He will likely have to take a pay cut, but that could significantly increase his options.

New York Giants

The Giants also have a talented and promising quarterback entering his second year. Jaxson Dart already has a top target in Malik Naber, so the Giants still have room to upgrade their WR2 position.

New head coach John Harbaugh wants to get the Giants back on the path to success. Along the way, a little quick and straightforward help from an experienced receiver could certainly be beneficial.

Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs are primarily hoping that superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes will return to full health after his severe knee injury and then be back to his old self. Mahomes is on the right track, but it remains to be seen whether he’ll be ready for Week 1.

All the better if—even as a top playmaker—he has reliable receivers around him right from the start. On top of that, the Chiefs have relied on short-term but effective help from established veterans in the past. Diggs would fit that profile.

New England Patriots

The stats Diggs posted on Instagram were from last season with the Patriots. With them, he made it to the Super Bowl, partly because he had a good connection with quarterback Drake Maye.

The Patriots have since signed Romeo Doubs, but that doesn’t necessarily rule out a return for Diggs—unless the Patriots trade for A.J. Brown.

But now that the legal issues have been resolved, a reunion with Diggs could be on the horizon—and with it, another run at the Super Bowl.
