Green Bay Packers may find compromise: Agreement with Aaron Rodgers imminent

Good news for all fans of the Green Bay Packers: Aaron Rodgers is planning to stay with the Wisconsin franchise for the 2021 season, according to media reports. The only fly in the ointment: It might be his last season with the Packers.

In the dispute between the Green Bay Packers and their quarterback Aaron Rodgers, an agreement is brewing.

According to Ian Rapoport of “NFL Network”, the 37-year-old has revealed privately that he plans to continue playing for the Packers this upcoming season.

Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst had also recently stressed he was “hopeful” there would be a positive outcome.

This is matched by a report from Adam Schefter of “ESPN”. The Packers are said to be offering concessions and are close to an agreement that would bring Rodgers back to Green Bay for at least the 2021 season.

Accordingly, the final year of the contract, that for the 2023 season, would be voided. After the 2021 season, the Packers would also be open to trades.

In addition, his contract for 2021 would be adjusted so that the Packers would have more financial flexibility and Rodgers would still have no loss of income.

Rodgers reportedly turned down mega contract

Rodgers was voted MVP last season. In the offseason, rumours had arisen that the star wanted to leave Green Bay. Rodgers himself had only ever been vague about it. However, he criticised the “character” and “culture” within the franchise.

Speaking to “ESPN”, Rodgers said his dissatisfaction did not stem from sporting decisions made by the franchise: “It’s more about the philosophy and maybe forgetting that it’s the people that keep this all going.”

Packers general manager Mark Murphy had described Rodgers as a “complicated guy” in the interim. This is likely to have further worsened the relationship between team and player. He is said to have rejected a new contract offer from Green Bay, which would have made him the highest-paid quarterback in the NFL.
