The future of Kyle Pitts is clear. The tight end signs the franchise tag with the Atlanta Falcons.
Kyle Pitts was one of the best players at his position last season. The tight end rushed for 928 yards and five touchdowns. As a result, the Atlanta Falcons were keen to keep him and therefore awarded him a franchise tag.
This was only the fourth time in their history that the franchise had done so. It should also be noted that the Falcons have given Pitts a non-exclusive franchise tag. The 25-year-old is therefore allowed to negotiate with other teams, but Atlanta can counter the offers if an agreement is reached with another team.
NFL: Atlanta Falcons and Pitts can continue to negotiate long-term contract
Now, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, Pitts has reportedly decided to sign his franchise tag. This means he will remain with the Falcons for the coming season and receive 15.045 million dollars guaranteed. He is also expected to be present at the start of voluntary workouts.
Both parties now have until mid-July to negotiate a possible long-term contract. The Falcons hope that Pitts’ good relationship with quarterback Michael Penix Jr. could be a reason for him to stay in Atlanta for the long term.
The two get along very well on and off the field and play a lot of golf together, for example. Together with star running back Bijan Robinson and wide receiver Drake London, they form a promising offensive line-up for the coming season.
