Shedeur Sanders is set for a change in 2026. His fans will probably not like it.
Shedeur Sanders’ fans will not like the decision. Even if it is understandable.
The Cleveland Browns quarterback will be wearing the number 2 on his back in 2026. In 2025, he completed his rookie season with the 12.
Why the 2? He wore it in college, but had to switch to 12 in Cleveland because wide receiver DeAndre Carter wore that number. Since Carter is no longer on the roster, the path was now clear.
The fans who picked up the jersey with the number 12 now already own an outdated jersey after the first season.
And there must be quite a few of them, because the Sanders jersey landed in fifth place in the top sales last offseason.
However, interest ebbed away during the regular season. Sanders only became a starter for the Browns towards the end of the season and even made the Pro Bowl as a substitute. He did not appear in the top 25 best-selling jerseys.
Shedeur Sanders: Is he buying the old jerseys?
His numbers on the field are expandable. Sanders averaged 175 passing yards per game, with a 3-4 record, seven touchdowns and ten interceptions. Whether he will also be the starter in 2026 remains to be seen.
Fun fact: Normally, players who change their number have to “buy out” the rest of their old jerseys. Dalvin Cook decided not to change his number with the Minnesota Vikings in 2021 because it would have cost him 1.5 million dollars. It is not known how much the switch will cost Sanders.
