NFL expands into next European country

The US professional league has discovered a new sales market in Europe and will be sending the Cleveland Browns and New Orleans there in future.

The NFL has announced the expansion of its Global Markets Program. The Cleveland Browns and the New Orleans Saints now have marketing rights in Italy, while the Las Vegas Raiders have extended their rights to Canada, the United Arab Emirates and Great Britain.

Italy was previously one of the markets that had not yet been tapped by the US football league.

In contrast, Germany remains the NFL’s largest foreign market with eleven NFL teams. The Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers, Indianapolis Colts, Kansas City Chiefs, New England Patriots, New York Giants, Pittsburgh Steelers, Seattle Seahawks and Tampa Bay Buccaneers hold the corresponding rights.

All 32 NFL teams have marketing rights

NFL franchises can apply for rights to international markets by submitting proposals to the International Committee for consideration each spring. All 32 teams now participate in the program and have rights in 22 international markets.

“The expansion of the Global Markets program in its fifth year underscores the continued focus on global growth for the NFL and its 32 teams,” said Gerrit Meier, NFL Managing Director and Head of International.

Launched in 2022, the Global Markets Program grants NFL franchises international marketing rights in countries outside the U.S. to build global brand awareness and a larger fan base through fan engagement, events or commercial activities.
