Great honor for Chiefs star Creed Humphrey. A baby rhino is named after the NFL professional at a zoo in Kansas.
Special gesture from Rolling Hills Zoo in Salina, Kansas. The zoo has named a baby rhino after a Kansas City Chiefs player. The animal is named after star center Creed Humphrey.
The zoo had waited until this week to name the rhino, which was born on February 8. According to “KSN-TV,” the organization said Humphrey’s “strength, perseverance and Midwestern roots made him the perfect namesake.”
“Creed is a name that represents strength, determination and heart – traits we see not only in this incredible calf, but also in his namesake,” Ryan VanZant, executive director of the Rolling Hills Zoo, said in a press release.
“We are thrilled to celebrate this connection and share his story with our community – especially the ‘Chiefs Kingdom.’”
Chiefs star Humphrey visited the rhino
Humphrey, who was drafted in the second round by the Chiefs in 2021, has been selected to the Pro Bowl four consecutive times and has already won two Super Bowl titles with the franchise.
In any case, the athlete is thrilled with his new namesake. “When the idea was presented to me that the Rolling Hills Zoo could name a new rhino calf after me, it seemed like a unique and wonderful opportunity,” he is quoted as saying in the press release.
“Since white rhinos are an endangered species, it was just incredible to be able to visit and interact with Creed the rhino. I highly recommend everyone to visit Rolling Hills Zoo for its commitment to conservation and because the entire zoo is so interactive.”
