At the Buffalo Bills’ end-of-season press conference, owner Terry Pegula slammed his fist on the table. Not only did the fired Sean McDermott get his comeuppance, but so did wide receiver Keon Coleman.
After the Buffalo Bills’ disappointing playoff exit against the Denver Broncos, team owner Terry Pegula announced tough decisions and addressed controversial issues in an end-of-season press conference. Pegula justified Sean McDermott’s dismissal with the result of the game against the Broncos: “I know we can do better.”
He emphasized that the decision was not based on controversial refereeing decisions, but on the fact that the team had hit a “playoff wall.” Nevertheless, he criticized the NFL referees’ calls as “clearly wrong” and cited them as the reason for the defeat.
McDermott had a record of 98-50 wins, eight playoff appearances, and five AFC East titles in nine years, but a Super Bowl appearance remained elusive.
Buffalo Bills: Keon Coleman? “Coaching staff pushed for it”
Pegula’s statements about wide receiver Keon Coleman, who disappointed in his second season, were particularly controversial.
Pegula blamed the coaches for the 33rd pick in the 2024 draft: “The coaching staff pushed hard for Keon to be drafted,” while Beane was just “a good teammate” and went along with it. Coleman, who was left out as a healthy scratch in the second half of the season, recorded only 67 catches for 960 yards and eight touchdowns in 26 games.
