The Miami Dolphins are taking initial action in response to their sobering season record and parting ways with general manager Chris Grier.
The Miami Dolphins’ poor start to the season, with seven losses in nine games, is taking its first toll: Just one day after their 6-28 defeat to the Baltimore Ravens, the Dolphins have parted ways with General Manager Chris Grier. The departure is amicable.
Grier had been GM in Miami since 2016 and had been with the team in other roles since 2000.
“We made the decision together this morning to part ways,” Dolphins owner Stephen M. Ross said in a statement. “I have great respect for Chris and his family and would like to thank him for his dedication over the past 26 years.”

Mike McDaniel to remain at least until the end of the season
Ross also addresses the reasons for the separation. “When I analyzed the state of the team and discussed it with Chris, it became clear to both of us that change couldn’t wait. We need to improve—in 2025, 2026, and beyond. And that has to start immediately.” Champ Kelly will take over for Grier as interim GM. No further changes are planned for the time being, which means that head coach Mike McDaniel will remain in office. Miami has been waiting for a playoff win in the NFL since 2000.
